Purple Dragon School of
Self Defense
Background, philosophy, history

For over fifteen years, Sensei
Ralph Ashodian and his staff have taught self defense
techniques to national and local security professionals, adults, university
students, and
public school traning. Sensei Ashodian is a black belt instructor who has
practiced
martial arts since 1970. He has training in many different styles including:
Aikido
Boxing
Judo
Jujitsu
Tai Chi Ch'uan
Karate
Ninjitsu
Sensei Ashodian believes that self defense is a fundamentally inward journey.
Though
students have the opportunity to become proficient in different fighting styles,
the serious
martial artist must integrate disciplines like weight training, conditioning,
stamina into his or
her training discipline. Typical classes often encompass education in the
following areas:
Relaxation
Stretching
Ukemi (breakfalls)
Sparring
Sports nutrition
Conditioning and coordination
The Purple Dragon School of Self Defense is for students who understand that the
path
to martial arts mastery is continuous and long term. Sensei Ashodian encourages
yearly
memberships to promote deeper understanding of martial arts as they apply to
modern
society. Interested individuals are welcome to sign up for a one month trial
period. After
that time, students can decide if the one year committment is right for them.
The Purple Dragon
School believes in integrative martial arts training and often sponsors a yearly
summer camp.
Local experts are invited to the outdoor dojo in west Gainesville and present
seminars on
topics like kendo (sword technique), archery, and grappling. The Purple Dragon
School
encourages your inquiries. Please feel free to contact us:
